The final game of the inter-Corps Season saw the Gunner Men host last years finalists, the REME, to Larkhill on Wednesday 3rd March 2010.  The Gunners fielded a strong team and after some close games where they failed to take their chances during the season they were determined to finish on a high. The game began well for the Gunners who looked the brighter side but struggled to execute the final pass until the last third of the first half when with an expansive run of play of several phases culminating in our opening try.  Particular mention must go to the Gunner back row, led by recent Army elite squad member Ifereimi Boladu, who completely nulled the brilliance of Army fly half Ceri Cummings so much that he began the second half at full back.  Conversely the Gunners young and emerging Army player, Taff Davies, had a mature and controlled game displaying his usual commitment of massive tackles and some awesome kicking from the hand and tee.

In the second half the Gunners began to put the sword in and the tries began to flow in an awesome spectacle of running rugby which apart from a momentary lapse of concentration after the disruption of a sin binning where the Gunner try line was breached for only the second time of the season.  The game ended 42-5 with the Gunners earning a bonus point and finished third in the table.

Head Coach, John Smith, was delighted with the commitment of his team and that finally they had managed to put together the performance that had been brewing all season.  Manager, Taff Edwards, was also elated with the performance and praised the management and players for their achievement during the season.  Whilst we have not won all of our games, we have developed a really strong squad who have learnt to play together in our chosen style and have the makings of a successful team for next season.  He made special mention of the commitment and performance of our club captain, Army elite player Ken Dowding, who has bought an extra dimension of professionalism and inspirational leadership which has been instrumental to the success of the season.  The key is to build on this performance next season.  We also wish our players from 4th Regiment who are due to deploy to Afghanistan and wish them well and look forward to welcoming them back safely for next season.
